Drugs valued over Rs.25 crore recovered, one nabbed

Anumulagundam Somasekhar, 32, was arrested from the Nizamuddin railway station in the national capital Thursday following a tip-off while he was trying to take the drugs to Hyderabad. During interrogation, Somasekhar revealed he has an MBA from a Hyderabad institute and took to delivering drugs after suffering heavy loss in his earlier business of stone-crushing. He met a non-resident Indian named Rajni, who after knowing about his financial crisis offered him to pay Rs.1 lakh per kg of drugs for delivering the consignment at a specific destination.


Gurgaon civic truck mows down cousins, driver held

Gurgaon, March 29 (IANS) Two teenaged boys were Saturday mowed down by a truck of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon here, police said. The victims were identified as Praveen Kumar and Pawan Kumar, both 16. Pawan hailed from Indrapuri in Delhi while Praveen was from Ashok Vihar area of Gurgaon. "The duo were crushed by a over-speeding truck near the temple while crossing the road.


Four children burnt to death in Jharkhand

Ranchi, March 29 (IANS) Four children were burnt to death in Jharkhand's Giridh district Saturday, police said. Three children died after being engulfed by the fire while one succumbed to injuries during treatment. "It seems fire broke out in the second floor of the house as children might have been playing with match sticks.


Congress candidate Masood arrested for threatening Modi

Lucknow, March 29 (IANS) Imran Masood, Congress candidate from Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur constituency, was arrested early Saturday for his hate speech against BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, police said. A court later sent him to 14 days judicial custody. Officials said a first information report (FIR) was lodged in Saharanpur, soon after clips of Masood's hate speech were telecast on TV channels. Senior Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar led the team that arrested Masood, who is the nephew of jailed Congress leader Rashid Masood.


Unanswered questions of missing Malaysian plane haunt Pune family

Pune, March 29 (IANS) The Pune-based family of a woman passenger on the missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 is distraught, and her husband has shot off an email to the airlines and the Malaysian government, demanding answers to various issues. "First and foremost, why did the Malaysian government and its airlines take seven to eight hours to declare that its flight MH370 was missing? Why emergency alarms were not raised across the region and across the world when the Boeing 777 with 239 passengers and crew suddenly disappeared from its radars?" an agitated Prahlad Shirsath, whose wife Kranti (44) was on the flight, said to IANS here Saturday. Deeply concerned for his wife's fate, he has gone to the extent of accusing the Malaysian government of "hiding something from us" or all these governments "trying to cover each other".


Express train driver run over by goods train in Bengal

Siliguri, March 29 (IANS) The driver of a stationary express train was run over by a goods train at a West Bengal station Saturday, railway officials said. "A case of unnatural death was recorded. However, Divisional Commercial Railway Manager, Alipurduar, Alokanando Sarkar said only a probe could establish whether the victim fell from his express train accidentally, or was pushed, or he jumped to his death.


China charges 4 surviving suspects of Kunming attack

REUTERS/StringerChina has laid out the charges against the four surviving suspects in a knife attack in the southwestern city of Kunming this month that left at least 169 dead or injured, the official People's Daily newspaper said on Saturday. The charges against the suspects of the March 1 attack, in which 29 were killed and about 140 injured, include organising, leading and participating in a terrorist organisation and murder, the newspaper said on its microblog. The four surviving suspects are likely to be given the death penalty, judging by the crimes they are accused of. Courts in China are controlled by the ruling Communist Party, which has already clearly apportioned blame.




Rahul Gandhi's Saharanpur rally postponed

New Delhi, March 29 (IANS) Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi has postponed an election rally scheduled to be held at Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday following the arrest of the party candidate from the constituency for threatening the BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. "Rahul Gandhi's rally is being postponed. The next date for it will be decided later," said Pradeep Mathur, Uttar Pradesh Congress Legislature Party leader.
