Egypt court sentences two Mursi supporters to death

An Egyptian court on Saturday sentenced two supporters of former president Mohamed Mursi to death for murder during violence that broke out in Alexandria last year after the army deposed the Islamist head of state. The judge ruled that the two men's files be referred to the mufti, the country's highest religious authority to whom death sentences are always sent for review. In a separate case on Monday, an Egyptian court in the southern province of Minya sentenced 529 supporters of Mursi's Muslim Brotherhood to death, drawing strong criticism from Western governments and human rights groups.


Drugs valued over Rs.25 crore recovered, one nabbed

Anumulagundam Somasekhar, 32, was arrested from the Nizamuddin railway station in the national capital Thursday following a tip-off while he was trying to take the drugs to Hyderabad. During interrogation, Somasekhar revealed he has an MBA from a Hyderabad institute and took to delivering drugs after suffering heavy loss in his earlier business of stone-crushing. He met a non-resident Indian named Rajni, who after knowing about his financial crisis offered him to pay Rs.1 lakh per kg of drugs for delivering the consignment at a specific destination.


Gurgaon civic truck mows down cousins, driver held

Gurgaon, March 29 (IANS) Two teenaged boys were Saturday mowed down by a truck of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon here, police said. The victims were identified as Praveen Kumar and Pawan Kumar, both 16. Pawan hailed from Indrapuri in Delhi while Praveen was from Ashok Vihar area of Gurgaon. "The duo were crushed by a over-speeding truck near the temple while crossing the road.


Four children burnt to death in Jharkhand

Ranchi, March 29 (IANS) Four children were burnt to death in Jharkhand's Giridh district Saturday, police said. Three children died after being engulfed by the fire while one succumbed to injuries during treatment. "It seems fire broke out in the second floor of the house as children might have been playing with match sticks.


Congress candidate Masood arrested for threatening Modi

Lucknow, March 29 (IANS) Imran Masood, Congress candidate from Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur constituency, was arrested early Saturday for his hate speech against BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, police said. A court later sent him to 14 days judicial custody. Officials said a first information report (FIR) was lodged in Saharanpur, soon after clips of Masood's hate speech were telecast on TV channels. Senior Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar led the team that arrested Masood, who is the nephew of jailed Congress leader Rashid Masood.


Unanswered questions of missing Malaysian plane haunt Pune family

Pune, March 29 (IANS) The Pune-based family of a woman passenger on the missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 is distraught, and her husband has shot off an email to the airlines and the Malaysian government, demanding answers to various issues. "First and foremost, why did the Malaysian government and its airlines take seven to eight hours to declare that its flight MH370 was missing? Why emergency alarms were not raised across the region and across the world when the Boeing 777 with 239 passengers and crew suddenly disappeared from its radars?" an agitated Prahlad Shirsath, whose wife Kranti (44) was on the flight, said to IANS here Saturday. Deeply concerned for his wife's fate, he has gone to the extent of accusing the Malaysian government of "hiding something from us" or all these governments "trying to cover each other".
