Israeli diplomats booked for assaulting Delhi airport official

New Delhi, April 6 (IANS) Three Israeli diplomats were booked for slapping and thrashing an immigration official at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport here, police said Sunday. A case under section 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the three Israeli diplomats, who enjoy diplomatic immunity, said a senior police officer. Police said immigration official Somveer was Saturday manhandled by the three young diplomats, who were on their way to Kathmandu, after they got angry over a delay in immigration formalities.


Fire on naval tug in Mumbai dock, no casualties

Mumbai, April 6 (IANS) A minor fire broke out Sunday on INS Matanga, an ocean-going tug while it was undergoing repairs in the Naval Dockyard here Sunday but was soon extinguished, an official said. There were no casualties or damage to the vessel.


Delhi HC refuses to quash FIR against AAP leader

New Delhi, April 6 (IANS) The Delhi High Court has refused to quash a police complaint filed against an AAP candidate in the Delhi assembly election who was allegedly involved in a scuffle with a police constable at a polling booth. In a recently delivered order, Justice Veena Birbal dismissed the plea of Aam Aadmi Party leader Rajan Prakash saying the case "does not fall within the parameters set down for quashing of FIR". Prakash had moved the court seeking an end to criminal proceedings lodged against him and two other party volunteers following an alleged altercation with Constable Nawab Ali posted near a polling booth during the Dec 4 poll.


482 bikers challaned, 269 vehicles impounded in Delhi

New Delhi, April 6 (IANS) A total 482 bikers were issued challans and 269 vehicles impounded by the police during a special drive against traffic violators in Delhi. "Pickets were put up at 52 points," said a police officer. He added the drive is to stop bikers from breaking rules by riding zig-zag, honking and performing stunts while weaving through traffic and bringing it to a halt besides jeopardizing their lives and that of others.


Bar Amit Shah from making speeches: CPI-M

New Delhi, April 6 (IANS) The CPI-M Sunday urged the Election Commission to bar BJP leader Amit Shah from addressing election meetings after providing evidence of his "hate speeches" in Uttar Pradesh. The CPI-M also said a police complaint should be lodged by the poll panel against Shah and others "identified in the footage making hate speeches". Shah is a close aide of BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and the party's election manager in Uttar Pradesh.


Delhi Police looks to fill security 'gap' for poll day

New Delhi, April 6 (IANS) With balloting in the capital days away, Delhi Police is a trifle concerned. It is wondering how to fill up the manpower gap of around 9,000 personnel with most of the paramilitary forces having been requisitioned by other states where elections are also being held. Delhi requires around 50,000 security personnel during polls, as was deployed during the Delhi assembly polls in December. Delhi Police will deploy 40,000 personnel on poll duty on April 10, with seven companies (around 700 personnel) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to help.


BSF seizes 36 kg heroin in Punjab

Chandigarh, April 6 (IANS) In its third major seizure of heroin this month, the Border Security Force (BSF) said Sunday it had seized 36 kg of heroin in Punjab after a shootout with smugglers from Pakistan. "BSF personnel challenged the smugglers who fired back... Taking advantage of the darkness and the wheat crop, the smugglers escaped," said a BSF spokesman. Earlier this month, the BSF seized 13 kg and 27 kg heroin in Punjab's Amritsar and Abohar sectors respectively.
