Drew, a pioneer of the cinema vérité documentary style, died on Wednesday in Sharon, Connecticut at the age of 90, his family said. Drew, who made more than 100 films on social issues, politics and the arts during a career that spanned more than five decades, died peacefully surrounded by children and friends. "He had been declining for some time and it was not completely unexpected," his son, Thatcher Drew, said. Drew, a former correspondent and editor at Life Magazine and a fighter pilot during World War Two, helped to develop cinema vérité, a direct type of observational or fly on the wall filming to capture reality. |
| Obama to Republicans: 'Stop just hatin' all the time' | |  By Roberta Rampton KANSAS CITY Mo (Reuters) - President Barack Obama took his criticism of congressional Republicans to a higher pitch on Wednesday, appealing to them to "stop just hatin' all the time" even as Republicans prepared to sue him over charges he has overstepped the bounds of his office. Republicans in the House of Representatives were expected to vote on Wednesday to authorize a lawsuit against the president for exceeding his presidential authority while implementing the Affordable Care Act, his signature health care law. Stop -- stop -- stop just hatin' all the time," he said of Republicans, drawing loud cheers from a raucous crowd of about 1,500 in an ornate theater in Kansas City. While the lawsuit would focus on the health law, Republicans have complained that Obama's use of executive actions to take other steps, such as raising the minimum wage for federal workers, risks giving him "king-like authority." Obama disparaged the expected lawsuit as nothing but election-year political theater and a distraction from issues such as highway construction or the southwestern border crisis.

| Killer of actor Kelsey Grammer's sister denied parole in Colorado | |  By Keith Coffman DENVER (Reuters) - A man convicted of murdering the sister of actor Kelsey Grammer in Colorado 34 years ago was denied parole on Wednesday, a day after Grammer testified against his release, authorities said. Freddie Glenn, who was convicted with two accomplices in the murder of 18-year-old Karen Elisa Grammer, was turned down for release by the state parole board, said Adrienne Jacobson, spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Corrections. Grammer was abducted on July 1, 1975, from a Colorado Springs seafood restaurant where she worked. In an audio recording of his testimony played at Tuesday's hearing, the 59-year-old actor told Glenn he forgave him for the crime, but endorsing parole for the convicted killer "would be a betrayal of my sister's life." Grammer said his sister moved to Colorado Springs to be closer to her boyfriend, and was a bright woman with a promising future.
