 ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan appointed outgoing foreign minister Ahmet Davutoglu as acting prime minister on Thursday, according to an announcement in the official gazette, moments after being sworn in as Turkey's 12th head of state. Davutoglu will oversee Turkey's existing cabinet until Erdogan asks him to form a new government, whose members are expected to be announced on Friday.  SHANGHAI/BEIJING (Reuters) - China on Thursday rejected remarks by former Japanese prime minister Yasuo Fukuda that Beijing had expressed willingness to improve ties between Asia's two biggest economies, and said there was "no change" in its policy on Tokyo. Relations between China and Japan have been frayed by rows over the legacy of Japan's wartime militarism, a territorial feud over tiny islands in the East China Sea, and mutual distrust over defence policies. China's foreign ministry was asked to respond to a speech on Wednesday in which Fukuda described his recent meetings with Chinese leaders, and added that both sides had shown the same sense of crisis over Sino-Japanese ties. "Japan must face up to reality, show sincerity, take concrete actions and make efforts to eliminate political obstacles that affect the development of bilateral relations," Qin added, in a statement on the foreign ministry's website.

 A Thai criminal court on Thursday threw out charges of murder and abuse of power faced by a former prime minister, Abhisit Vejjajiva, and his then deputy over a deadly crackdown on street protesters in 2010. The decision, three months after the army seized power in a bloodless May 22 coup, is sure to spark the anger of Thailand's "red shirt" activists, who have spotlighted the country's long culture of impunity for holders of political office. "The court has no jurisdiction to consider the case because the two were a prime minister and deputy prime minister," a judge said on Thursday. "The charges relate to political office holders.

 The singer and Australian X Factor talent show judge, whose real name is Stefan Kendal Gordy, has been left with a scar above his right eye after a man hurled a glass at him, police said. "He looked at me and taunted me and winked his eye, just to say 'I got you' or something," Redfoo told Australian television. Redfoo is the youngest son of Berry Gordy Jnr, the founder of Motown Records company.

 A 31-year-old man on Wednesday withdrew a high-profile lawsuit accusing "X-Men" director Bryan Singer of sexually abusing him when he was an aspiring teen actor. Michael Egan filed a motion for voluntary dismissal of the civil lawsuit brought against Singer in April, according to court documents filed in Hawaii. Egan had also filed three other lawsuits claiming he was sexually abused as a teen by entertainment firm executive Gary Goddard and TV executives David Neuman and Garth Ancier, all of which have been dismissed.
