 WARSAW (Reuters) - A Polish court on Friday adjourned until mid-September a hearing on whether to extradite filmmaker Roman Polanski to the United States over a 1977 child sex crime conviction. The date of the next hearing will be set later, judge Dariusz Mazur said. Earlier on Friday, Mazur said Poland was seeking the United States' legal help in the case, and that U.S. authorities had until Aug. 8 to reply.  By Manoj Kumar NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Finance Minister Arun Jaitley struck a conciliatory tone towards investors on Friday, promising to tax corporate profits at competitive rates and saying the government would do all in its power to implement a new goods and services tax (GST) on time. Foreign portfolio investors have complained about surprise tax claims and, during a news conference to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first year in power, Jaitley said a judicial resolution was in the works. Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party had accused the previous Congress-led government of "tax terrorism".

 One of India's most powerful politicians, Jayalalithaa Jayaram, is set to return as chief minister of Tamil Nadu following a nine-month break, after a court overturned her conviction in a corruption case. A former film star who has a cult-like following in Tamil Nadu, Jayalalithaa also wields influence in national politics, with her AIADMK party holding the third largest number of seats in India's lower house of parliament. Jayalalithaa is expected to be sworn in as chief minister as early as Saturday.
