BEIJING (Reuters) - China is "strongly concerned" about a case in which six Chinese nationals were charged by the United States with economic espionage, it said on Wednesday. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei made the remarks at a regular briefing, adding the country would work to safeguard the rights and interests of its nationals. UBS says to settle FX probe, pay $545 mln, plead guilty over Libor

The Swiss bank's disclosure comes as part of what is expected to be a combined bill of more than $5 billion and criminal charges for five of the world's biggest banks in a settlement with U.S. and British authorities over the foreign exchange probe. UBS said its settlement includes a $203 million penalty for pleading guilty to allegations it rigged Libor benchmark interest rates.




Health staff, clinics attacked, need more protection - rights groups

Targeted attacks are destroying health systems and infrastructure, forcing health workers to flee and preventing children from getting vaccinations, Human Rights Watch (HRW) and the Safeguarding Health in Conflict Coalition said in a report.

Stories in the Wall Street Journal and New York Times outlined long-simmering accusations from the United States that the governments of President Nicolas Maduro and his predecessor, Hugo Chavez, have facilitated cocaine shipments. "It would never occur to us to get involved in something that would hurt young people," the National Assembly head and No. 2 in the ruling Socialist Party told Venezuela's parliament.

The sources said a spy must have infiltrated the movement and passed on vital information that helped the U.S. commandos zero in on the home of their victim early Saturday when most of the guards had left to join a battle elsewhere. The Islamic State was also considering tightening its recruitment procedures to try to root out moles and was considering forming a specialist unit to counter such attacks in future.




Gunfight in blood-soaked western Mexican state kills at least eight

At least eight people died in a shootout between Mexican federal police and suspected gang members in the troubled western state of Jalisco, a government official said on Tuesday. The gunfight took place on Monday in the municipality of Villa Purificacion, where members of the Jalisco New Generation (JNG) cartel shot down an army helicopter on May 1, killing six military personnel on a day of clashes that claimed 15 lives. Over the past two months at least 20 federal and state police killed have been in separate clashes with the gang.
