Teacher killed, 23 students wounded in mortar attack in Damascus - state media

A Syrian teacher was killed and 23 students were wounded when a mortar shell hit their school on Wednesday in the heart of Damascus, Syrian state media said. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which tracks violence in the country, said two mortars hit the school and that most of the wounded were in critical condition. State media said "terrorists" had carried out the attack, a term it uses to describe insurgents.

UBS's payment is part of what is expected to be a combined multi billion-dollar settlement by five of the world's biggest banks with U.S. and British authorities over alleged manipulation of the $5 trillion-a-day forex market. UBS has not been charged because it was the first bank to report the misconduct to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).

By Lindsay Dunsmuir WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S government charged six Chinese nationals with economic espionage, saying they stole secrets from two companies that develop technology often used in military systems, the Department of Justice said on Tuesday. It was the third time in as many years that U.S. authorities have made accusations of economic espionage conducted on behalf of China, a sign that the United States is increasingly focused on what it has termed a top national security concern. The charges against the six could exacerbate tensions between China and the United States, coming two days after U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry's China visit was overshadowed by concerns over Beijing's maritime ambitions in the South China Sea.

BEIJING (Reuters) - China is "strongly concerned" about a case in which six Chinese nationals were charged by the United States with economic espionage, it said on Wednesday. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei made the remarks at a regular briefing, adding the country would work to safeguard the rights and interests of its nationals.
