| India hangs Yakub Memon for 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts | |  MUMBAI/NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India hanged Yakub Memon on Thursday for his role in the country's deadliest bombings, which killed at least 257 people in Mumbai in 1993, after the Supreme Court rejected a desperate overnight plea to delay his execution. Memon was sent to the gallows in a jail complex in Nagpur at around 7 a.m. (0130 GMT), an official in the city's police control room said. Memon, hanged on his 53rd birthday, was convicted as the "driving spirit" behind the serial blasts in India's financial capital, then still known as Bombay.

| Cincinnati police officer indicted in shooting death of black man | |  By Steve Bittenbender CINCINNATI (Reuters) - A University of Cincinnati police officer was indicted on Wednesday on murder charges in the fatal shooting last week of an unarmed black motorist who was stopped because of a missing front license plate. Hamilton County prosecutor Joseph Deters called the July 19 killing of Samuel Dubose, 43, "senseless" and "totally unwarranted." Ray Tensing, the 25-year-old white officer who shot Dubose in the head, "wasn't dealing with someone who was wanted for murder," Deters told a news conference. "He was dealing with someone who didn't have a front license plate.
