11:53:27 PM

The result was similar to last week's procedural vote on the Iran measure but two Republicans opposed to the deal, presidential candidates Rand Paul and Lindsey Graham, did not vote on Tuesday.

An appeals court rejected the Canadian government's ban on face coverings worn by some Muslims during citizenship ceremonies, the Canadian Press reported on Tuesday. In response, the ruling Conservative party said the government was considering all legal options following the court ruling in Ontario. Prime Minister Stephen Harper, facing a tight three-way battle to remain in power, has defended the ban arguing that he believed the niqab, a face covering veil worn by some Muslims, was rooted in an "anti-women" culture.

11:35:34 PM
Mali's pro-government militias have withdrawn from the flashpoint town of Anefis but are pushing northwards to another settlement, the United Nations mission (MINUSMA) said on Tuesday. Mediators are struggling to make armed groups in Mali's desert north abide by the terms of a U.N.-backed June peace deal which seeks to turn the page on decades of Tuareg rebellions since independence from France in 1960. The departure of the Platform coalition from Anefis comes after weeks of pressure from Western donors, MINUSMA and even from the Malian government following a series of clashes there last month that killed at least 20 people.

While some lawmakers have expressed concern about opening a pipeline into the United States for terrorists, the White House last week made the first specific U.S. commitment to increase acceptance of refugees from the war-torn country. Johnson said on Tuesday that the security review and background checks for refugees would mainly fall to Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) within his agency.

Earlier this year, Fernandez's government questioned Carlos Fayt's ability to continue in his post, with senior officials calling for medical tests to evaluate his mental and physical health. Fayt insisted he was in good health and government opponents accused Fernandez's administration of seeking to replace him with a judge more sympathetic to it, amid a raft of high profile graft investigations and accusations of political interference in the judiciary.

No U.S. facility will close, a GE spokeswoman said.

The White House said on Tuesday it does not support a bill in the U.S. House of Representatives to repeal the 40-year-old ban on exports of crude oil. "This is a policy decision that is made over at the Commerce Department, and for that reason, we wouldn't support legislation like the one that's been put forward by Republicans," White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters at a briefing. "The administration believes that the American people are better served by making sure that we pursue the kind of approach that also invests in renewable energy," he said.
