China to prosecute former official for "crazily luxurious" club
4:55:25 AM
China's ruling Communist Party will prosecute a former senior city government official who connived with businessmen to build a "crazily luxurious" private club modelled on Beijing's famous "Water Cube" Olympics swimming venue. Since President Xi Jinping began his sweeping campaign against corruption, waste and extravagance three years ago, the government has released details of the sometimes luxurious lives of officials who are supposed to live on modest sums and lead morally exemplary lives. Wang Zhengshan, whose investigation the party announced in April, was a senior official in a development zone in the northern port city of Tianjin, but he ignored party discipline orders and got into bed with a group of "illegal businessmen", the party's anti-graft watchdog said on Thursday.

With Chinese President Xi Jinping set to visit Washington next week, Obama told a group of company chief executives that cybersecurity would be a major focus in his talks with Xi, a topic that has become a point of friction in U.S.-Chinese relations. A person briefed on the White House's thinking said on Tuesday the United States does not plan to impose sanctions on Chinese entities for economic cyber attacks ahead of Xi's visit to avoid what would be seen as a diplomatic disaster.

The lawsuit was filed in federal court in Seattle, Washington by former technician Katherine Moussouris, who claims she was passed over for promotions given to less-qualified men and was told supervisors did not like her "manner or style." Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft gives employees numerical rankings based on performance evaluations, according to the lawsuit, and routinely gave female workers lower ratings based on subjective criteria. "Microsoft systematically undervalues the efforts and achievements of its female technical employees," said Adam Klein of well-known employment law firm Outten & Golden in New York, one of the firms representing Moussouris.

The policy shift, which Abe says is vital to meet challenges such as a rising China, has sparked huge public protests and sharply eroded popular support for the premier. Opponents argue it violates the constitution and fear it could ensnare Japan in U.S.-led conflicts.

Rapper Rick Ross loses 'Everyday I'm hustlin'' copyright claim

Rapper Ross performs during official weigh-in for Mayweather Jr. of U.S. and Maidana of Argentina ahead of their welterweight boxing match at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las VegasBy Andrew Chung NEW YORK (Reuters) - Rapper Rick Ross cannot copyright the words "Everyday I'm hustlin'," a U.S. judge has ruled, putting an end to his claim against music group LMFAO for selling T-shirts with the similar catch-phrase "Everyday I'm shufflin'." In a ruling released on Tuesday in Miami federal court, U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams said Ross's slogan, a prominent part of his 2006 debut hit "Hustlin'," is a short expression that courts have repeatedly said cannot be copyrighted. Williams' order puts a dent in a copyright infringement lawsuit that Ross, whose real name is William Leonard Roberts II, filed against LMFAO in 2013. Ross alleged the Los Angeles-based electropop duo, made up of Stefan Gordy and Skyler Gordy, copied "Hustlin'" for their own 2010 chart-topping "Party Rock Anthem," which contains the lyric "Everyday I'm shufflin'." The hip hop star said LMFAO's song was "an obvious attempt to capitalise on the fame and success of Hustlin'." He also sued Kia Motors for using "Party Rock Anthem" in an advertising campaign.
