Alison-Madueke was minister from 2010 until May 2015 under former president Goodluck Jonathan, who was defeated by Muhammadu Buhari at the election in March. Buhari took office in May promising to root out corruption in Africa's most populous nation where few benefit from the country's enormous energy resources.

Chris Harper-Mercer lived in Torrance, California, before moving to Winchester, Oregon, where he resided in an apartment with his mother Laurel Harper about a four-minute drive from Umpqua Community College, according to online directories. At least nine other people were also wounded when he sprayed bullets into a classroom at the college in Roseburg, a timber town of about 20,000 people which adjoins Winchester.

The Colombian government and FARC have only published a two-page statement, which includes the breakthrough agreement reached in Cuba, to establish special courts to try former combatants including guerrillas, government soldiers and members of right-wing paramilitary groups. The agreement has caused consternation in Colombia, where critics complain rebels of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, might escape punishment or extradition to the United States, where some are wanted on drug-trafficking charges.

| Oregon sheriff says college shooter was male, is dead | |  (Reuters) - A gunman who opened fire on Thursday at a community college in Roseburg, Oregon, was a male and was killed during an exchange of gunfire with police, Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin told a news conference. Hanlin did not identify the shooter. He added that no law enforcement officers were wounded. It was too early in the investigation to say if anyone else was involved in the shooting at Umpqua Community College, Hanlin said. Bahraini Sheikh Salman, president of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), while not explicitly ruling out a bid for the presidency of FIFA, said in a statement: "I have noted recent media speculation that my name has been suggested by others but, while I would like to thank them for their trust and confidence in my leadership, the thought of being a candidate in 2016 had not crossed my mind." FIFA will elect a successor in February to veteran Blatter, who was placed under investigation last Friday by Swiss authorities.
