Police arrest Colorado abortion clinic gunman, 11 injured

(Reuters) - Police arrested a gunman who stormed a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Colorado Springs on Friday and opened fire with a rifle in a burst of violence that left at least 11 people injured, including five officers, authorities said. Authorities did not report any fatalities, but a police spokeswoman, Lieutenant Catherine Buckley, said police were still searching for possible victims who might have been left behind in the clinic as the building was evacuated. A Reuters photographer at the scene saw a man in a white T-shirt, with his hands cuffed behind his back, being taken out of an armoured police vehicle and placed in an unmarked squad car.

(Reuters) - Police engaged in a shootout on Friday with a gunman who stormed a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Colorado Springs in a burst of violence that left four officers and an undetermined number of civilians injured, police said. Police swarmed the area around the building after an emergency call reporting shots fired at about 11:30 a.m. Mountain Time (1830 GMT), and officers ultimately confronted the suspect inside the building, said Lieutenant Catherine Buckley, the police department spokeswoman. About an hour later, live television footage aired by CNN showed several people being escorted safely from the building into police vehicles.




New York police send vehicles to Planned Parenthood clinics across city

(Reuters) - The New York Police Department said it has redeployed vehicles to Planned Parenthood locations throughout the city on Friday in the wake of a shooting at a clinic in Colorado, although there were no specific threats made. "As a precautionary measure, the New York City Police Department has redeployed Critical Response Vehicles to Planned Parenthood locations throughout the city," police said in a statement.

Obama notified about shooting near Colorado clinic - White House

Chile right-wing politician first to be convicted in corruption probe

The incident marks at least the third time someone has jumped the White House fence this year.

Ex-prisoner Gross - Remembering Holocaust eased Cuba imprisonment

American former prisoner Alan Gross said remembering how his family survived the Holocaust helped him through five years of imprisonment in Cuba, where he was held on espionage charges, according to interview excerpts released on Friday. Gross, 66, spoke out in what CBS News said was his first interview since his release in December 2014 as part of a historic diplomatic thaw between the United States and the neighbouring communist island nation. Gross, who was an American government contractor when he was jailed in Cuba, said he was threatened with death and torture, according to CBS, which plans to air the full interview on Sunday.
