Thailand's parliament to invite crown prince to become new king | | By Amy Sawitta Lefevre and Patpicha Tanakasempipat BANGKOK (Reuters) - Parliament will invite Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn to become the new king following the death of revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej last month, the president of the legislative body said on Tuesday. Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, president of the National Legislative Assembly, said in a televised session the prince would be invited to ascend the throne after the cabinet earlier on Tuesday formally asked parliament to begin the process of installing a new monarch. Members of the assembly stood up during a short parliamentary session and shouted: "Long live the king!" The prince will have to accept parliament's invitation in order for him to be proclaimed king, according to established procedure.

Car, knife attack at Ohio State injures 11; suspect's background probed | | A car and knife attack by an Ohio State University student that injured 11 people on Monday before the suspect was shot dead by a police officer is being investigated as a possible terror attack, a U.S. congressman and another government source said. The suspect, Abdul Razak Ali Artan, was shot and killed by a police officer with less than two years on the force after driving into a group of people and then jumping out of the vehicle and stabbing people with a butcher knife at the school's Columbus campus, said Monica Moll, director of public safety for Ohio State University. Ohio State University Police Chief Craig Stone told a news conference that Artan might have been as old as 20.
