 By Jane Wardell and Randy Fabi SYDNEY/JAKARTA (Reuters) - Australia made a last-minute plea on Monday for a stay in the imminent execution of two Australian drug traffickers in Indonesia, saying reports that their trial had been tainted by corruption needed to be investigated. The call from Foreign Minister Julie Bishop almost immediately deepened a diplomatic row with Jakarta. Indonesian President Joko Widodo, speaking to reporters at Jakarta airport after returning from a regional summit in Kuala Lumpur, said such concerns should have been conveyed years ago when the case went through the courts. Armanatha Nasir, spokesman for Indonesia's foreign ministry, said Australians Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan had been given all the legal avenues to challenge their death sentences.

 By Ori Lewis JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel began evacuating infants born to surrogate mothers and their Israeli parents from Nepal on Monday, on the return legs of flights sent to provide earthquake relief. Many Israeli male couples have fathered children with the help of surrogate mothers in Nepal because in Israel the procedure is limited by law to heterosexual partners. Three newborns were ferried to Israel on a small military aircraft that had delivered an advance team of doctors to Nepal to boost rescue efforts after Saturday's devastating earthquake. The plane flew home with 11 passengers, and Israel's Foreign Ministry said preparations were under way to bring another 22 infants, the parents who had travelled to Nepal before the disaster to collect them and four surrogate mothers to Israel on other return flights.

| Iran's hardline judiciary has banned a magazine for encouraging cohabitation, known as "white marriage" in the Islamic Republic where sex outside wedlock is a crime, the Shargh newspaper reported on Monday. Under Iran's sharia-based laws, imposed after the 1979 Islamic revolution, extramarital sex is punishable by flogging. Last year, the monthly Zanan-e Emrouz (Today's Women) published a special issue discussing various aspects of the "white marriage" and the reasons behind what it said was the increasing number of unmarried Iranian couples living together. "The press watchdog banned Zanan-e Emrouz monthly today for encouraging and justifying 'white marriage'," Shargh reported. |

 By Linda Sieg TOKYO (Reuters) - Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's ruling party wants to revise Japan's constitution by late 2018 to remove constraints on his defence strategy, a key party lawmaker said, an ambitious target since the charter has not been changed since Americans drafted it after World War Two. Abe has already stretched the post-war pacifist constitution with a dramatic shift in security policy that ends a ban on Japan's military fighting overseas. "The cabinet resolution and legislation being crafted now have gone right up to the limits of what is possible under the constitution as it is now," said Hajime Funada, head of a ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) panel on constitutional revision. The constitution's war-renouncing Article 9, if read literally, bans the maintenance of armed forces.

 Indonesia President Joko Widodo will consult with the attorney general on legal issues surrounding the case of death row convict Mary Jane Veloso, the Philippines presidential spokesman said on Monday. The statement came after the Philippines President Benigno Aquino met Widodo at the ASEAN summit in Kuala Lumpur and appealed for "humanitarian consideration" in the case. Widodo was sympathetic and was consulting with the Indonesian attorney general on the legal issues, he said.
