Modi's 90-minute-long speech, made from the ramparts of New Delhi's Red Fort on Saturday, focused on measures his "Team India" had rolled out to include millions of poor Indians in the banking and insurance systems, policies for workers and farmers and successes in the fights against inflation and corruption. "We expected him to hit back at the opposition and blame the opposition for the slower-than-expected reform pace, but he failed to do so," said a minister in Modi's government.

Mothers Against Senseless Killings founder Tamar Manasseh (R) looks out over the street intersection in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, United StatesBy Mary Wisniewski CHICAGO (Reuters) - Every afternoon this summer, on a street corner in one of Chicago's most violent neighborhoods, visitors have been able to find an unusual block party. A dozen volunteers armed with lawn chairs, a barbecue grill and canopies have taken over the corner of 75th and Stewart in Englewood, a roughly three square mile neighborhood that has averaged almost one shooting a day this year.     They play music, cook hot dogs, dispense advice and, as often as not, hug local boys and girls in an effort to tackle the street violence of this South Side neighborhood, scarred by trash-strewn vacant lots and boarded-up buildings.     Across Chicago, violence has reached alarming levels this year, confounding city leaders and activists, particularly in the poorest neighborhoods.

Former Arlington police officer Brad Miller, a 49-year-old trainee, was fired this week for what the department said was his poor judgment in events surrounding the shooting last week of Taylor, who had broken into an auto dealership and was vandalizing cars.

Immigration Director General Rubén Paulino Sem confirmed the deportations at the Dajabón border post on Saturday morning, according to the Listín Diario newspaper. Officials in the Dominican Republic have grown concerned by a long-running influx of people from neighboring Haiti and a 2013 Dominican court ruling that stripped citizenship from children born to undocumented immigrants, the vast majority of which are Haitian.
