| Vietnam vows tough measures to avert anti-China unrest |

 By Ho Binh Minh HANOI (Reuters) - Vietnam vowed on Saturday to thwart any new outbreak of violence after deadly rioting devastated crucial manufacturing centres this week in an outpouring of rage over Chinese oil drilling in a disputed area of the South China Sea. Vietnam's lead police investigator defended security forces widely blamed for failing to curb the unrest and said "illegal acts" would be not be tolerated, a day ahead of expected anti-China protests in its major cities. Hoang Kong Tu told reporters the authorities would "strongly deploy measures in line with the law" and there would be no repeat of violence seen on Tuesday and Wednesday, when mobs went on the rampage in three provinces, targeting industrial parks crucial to Vietnam's economy and exports. The violence was triggered by China's positioning of a $1 billion oil rig in a part of the South China Sea claimed by Hanoi, a move described by the United States as provocative.

"There is determination to tackle this situation head on ... to launch a war, a total war on Boko Haram," he said after a meeting in Paris to define a common strategy to fight the Islamist group.  By John Irish PARIS (Reuters) - Britain offered on Saturday to send advisers to help the Nigerian military organise its efforts to fight Boko Haram rebels, who have kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls and threaten to destabilise the wider region. British Foreign Minister William Hague, speaking before the start of a meeting of Western and African leaders in Paris, said the Nigerian military was not organised in a way to deal effectively with the Islamist group. French President Francois Hollande told the meeting that Boko Haram was now a threat to all Western and Central Africa - a point that was supported by reports of a suspected Boko Haram attack on a Chinese work site in Cameroon on Friday might. Although Boko Haram have been fighting for five years, carrying out many bombings and attacks on civilians as well as security forces, the kidnapping last month of more than 200 girls from a school in Chibok, northeast Nigeria, has focussed world attention on them.

 U.S. tech giants Apple, Google and Amazon and French game developer Gameloft are under investigation in Italy for alleged unfair commercial practices, the country's antitrust and competition authority said. The investigation will determine whether the four companies are misleading customers by advertising mobile game apps as free, when in fact purchases are required to continue playing beyond a certain point, the regulator said in a statement. "Moreover, insufficient information seems to be provided to consumers about the settings needed to stop or limit the purchases within the app." Apple declined to comment while Gameloft said it was looking into the issue but had no other comment. Google and Amazon could not immediately be reached for a reaction.
