| Suu Kyi allies to form Myanmar ruling party after decades of struggle | |  By Timothy Mclaughlin and Hnin Yadana Zaw NAYPYITAW (Reuters) - After decades of struggle, hundreds of lawmakers from Aung San Suu Kyi's camp will form Myanmar's ruling party on Monday, with enough seats in parliament to choose the first democratically elected government since the military took power in 1962. The National League for Democracy (NLD) won some 80 percent of elected seats in November's historic vote, but the junta-drafted constitution means it will have to share power with the army that for years has suppressed, often brutally, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate and her allies. The first sitting of the NLD-dominated parliament is another step in Myanmar's drawn-out transition which started with the election and will go on until the NLD government officially starts its term in April.

| China police arrest 21 over $7.6 bln online financial scam | | | Chinese police have arrested 21 people involved in the operation of peer-to-peer (P2P) lender Ezubao, the official Xinhua news agency said on Monday, over an online scam it said took in some 50 billion yuan ($7.6 billion) from about 900,000 investors. Among those arrested were Ding Ning, the chairman of Yucheng Group, which launched Ezubao in July 2014. It was not possible to reach Ezubao officials for comment and it was not clear if Ding had legal representation. |
| Dolce & Gabbana put gay parents on handbags as Italy in heated debate | |  Italian fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have appeared to weigh in to an impassioned debate about gay people's rights in their home country with cosy designs showing same-sex couples with children. Last year, Dolce angered many when he used the common derogatory term "womb rental" for surrogacy, which is banned in Italy. Avid Instagram user Gabbana posted photos of handbags and t-shirts adorned with childlike drawings of family groups of two men or two women with children of various ages.

| Americans not believed among militants detained by Saudis - U.S. officials | | | U.S. officials said on Sunday they did not believe nine U.S. citizens were among 33 suspects detained on terrorism charges in Saudi Arabia over the past week, as reported by a Saudi newspaper. The English-language daily Saudi Gazette, citing an unnamed source, on Sunday reported that four Americans were detained last Monday, followed by another five in the following days. Saudi authorities also detained 14 Saudis, three Yemenis, two Syrians, an Indonesian, a Filipino, a United Arab Emirates citizen, a Palestinian and a citizen of Kazakhstan, the report said. |

| France's Hollande uses pardon for woman who killed violent husband | | | French President Francois Hollande on Sunday agreed to reduce the prison sentence of Jacqueline Sauvage, whose conviction for the murder of her violent husband has stirred public opinion, in a rare use of a presidential pardon in France. Sauvage received a 10-year sentence for shooting dead her husband in 2012, and the upholding of the sentence by an appeal court in December led her three daughters to seek a presidential pardon, supported by an online petition that attracted some 380,000 signatures. The sentence reduction granted by Hollande would allow Sauvage to immediately ask to be released on parole, the president's office said in a statement. |

Lynch WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Barclays and Credit Suisse have settled federal and state charges that they misled investors in their dark pools, with Barclays admitting it broke the law and agreeing to pay $70 million, federal and New York state officials said on Sunday. The settlements between the banks and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the New York state attorney general mark the two largest fines ever paid in connection with cases involving dark pools. At the heart of the cases against both Barclays and Credit Suisse are allegations they misled investors in the dark pools, saying they would be protected from predatory high-frequency trading tactics.
