Northumbria police, which kept the two protests apart, said five people were arrested for alleged offences from assault to being drunk and disorderly, but that largely both demonstrations passed without any problems. Saturday, February 28, 2015 6:12 PM
By Mike Collett BELFAST (Reuters) - Football's rule-making body, the International Football Association Board (IFAB), rejected the idea of a fourth substitution in extra time on Saturday but is considering dropping the one-match ban for "triple punishments". The body, which consists of the four British associations and four from soccer's world governing body FIFA, also wants more time to discuss video trials being carried out in the Netherlands by the Dutch FA (KNVB). The fourth substitute proposal, requiring a change to Law 3, did not get approval but will be referred back for further analysis by IFAB's newly-introduced advisory panels. Irish FA chief executive Patrick Nelson told a news briefing: "We think this is a ground-breaking decision that will have a significant effect on the way grassroots football is played by thousands of amateur and recreational players".

Police sealed off the blood-stained bridge close to the red walls of the Kremlin and Red Square for two hours overnight, then hosed it down as people came to pay tribute to one of Putin's biggest opponents over Russia's role in Ukraine. Russia's Investigative Committee, which answers to Putin, said it was following several lines of inquiry, including that the opposition may have committed the crime to rally support for a march against Kremlin policies on the economy and Ukraine.

Egypt courts list Hamas as terrorist group, give Brotherhood leader life
1:26:19 PM
An Egyptian court listed the Palestinian group Hamas as a terrorist organisation, judicial sources said on Saturday, part of a sustained crackdown on Islamists in the most populous Arab state. In a separate case earlier in the day, a court sentenced the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood's top leader Mohamed Badie to life in prison while other members received the death penalty. Hamas is an offshoot of the Brotherhood, which the authorities have also declared a terrorist group in Egypt and have repressed systematically since the army ousted one of its leaders, Mohamed Mursi, from the presidency in 2013.

Egypt court sentences top Brotherhood leader to life
12:13:52 PM
An Egyptian court sentenced the Muslim Brotherhood's top leader Mohamed Badie to life in prison on Saturday while other members received the death penalty, as part of a sustained crackdown by authorities on Islamists. Egypt has jailed thousands linked to the Muslim Brotherhood since the army removed Islamist president Mohamed Mursi from power in July 2013 following mass protests against his rule. Four lower-level members of the Brotherhood were sentenced to death on Saturday for inciting violence that led to the killing of protesters demonstrating outside a Brotherhood office on June 30, 2013, days before Mursi's ouster. The death sentences are subject to appeal and many of the defendants are already serving lengthy sentences on other charges.

No big bang, but budget goes for growth, investment
12:04:30 PM

India's Finance Minister Arun Jaitley (C) leaves his office to present the 2015/16 federal budget in New DelhiBy Rajesh Kumar Singh and Malini Menon NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday announced a budget that put boosting growth before painful reforms, slowing the pace of fiscal deficit cuts and seeking to put domestic and foreign capital to work. In his first full-year budget since Prime Minister Narendra Modi's landslide election victory last May, Jaitley said India's economy was about to take off. Modi tweeted that the budget would "further reignite our growth engine". Billed as a test of the nationalist premier's willingness to reform a $2 trillion economy with a bloated public sector and weak private investment, the budget was short on structural reforms and contained revenue targets some called unrealistic.
