| Philippine security forces have arrested a Muslim rebel responsible for the death of two U.S. servicemen in a September 2009 roadside bombing on the remote southern island of Jolo, a police general said on Monday. Jolo is the hotbed of Muslim rebels and al Qaeda-linked Islamist militants. Dozens of U.S. troops are still deployed there to train and advise Filipino troops in fighting the small but violent Abu Sayyaf group. A team of policemen and soldiers surprised Miraji Bairullah, also known as Mahang, in his hideout on Sunday morning outside the town of Indanan on the island, said Benjamin Magalong, head of a police criminal investigation and detection group. |

 By Jessica Donati and Mirwais Harooni KABUL (Reuters) - Afghanistan's government protested against a U.S. deal to free five high-ranking Taliban militants in exchange for a U.S. soldier arguing the transfer of the men from a Guantanamo Bay jail to Qatar violated international law. The five prisoners were flown to Qatar on Sunday as part of the agreement to release Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, the only known U.S. prisoner of war in Afghanistan, held captive for five years.

Five men, two of them police officers, were arrested for a crime that underscored the enduring culture of sexual assault in India and the capacity for appalling violence between Hindu castes. In India - where a rape is reported every 21 minutes on average - the story has slipped off the front pages already. And Prime Minister Narendra Modi, serving his first week in office, made no public comment on the case.
