Pakistani protesters push closer to PM House amid clashes

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - A large crowd of Pakistani protesters pushed closer to the prime minister's house in central Islamabad on Monday, fighting running battles with police after breaking into the Pakistan Secretariat area which houses government ministries. Although they fired occasional teargas canisters, police were seen retreating and showing restraint as protesters, many carrying wooden clubs, pushed closer to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's official residence. Clashes in Islamabad as pressure mounts on PM to resign

Despite heavy rain, crowds of protesters tried to break through police lines to push their way to the prime minister's residence. Protesters led by Imran Khan, a renowned cricketer before entering politics, and fiery cleric Tahir ul-Qadri, erupted last month and descended into deadly confrontation on Saturday, with at least three people killed in clashes with police.




Dozens arrested at Made in America music festival in Los Angeles

During Sunday's show at Grand Park there were four felony arrests, including one for battery and the rest for possession of narcotics, besides three misdemeanor arrests, including one charge of public drunkenness, the Los Angeles Police Department said. Another 23 people were given alcohol citations, an LAPD police spokeswoman said. So far about 27,000 tickets have been scanned for Sunday's full day of events, including top-billed stars John Mayer and Kanye West later in the evening.




Celebrity chef Todd English charged with intoxicated driving in New York

English was arraigned on a misdemeanor charge and released on $1,500 bail following his early morning arrest, Southampton police said. English's attorney, Edward Burke Jr., said in a statement his client was not intoxicated while driving. English, who is from Boston, has opened restaurants all over the world and currently operates more than a dozen eateries, including The Todd English Food Hall at the Plaza Hotel in New York.
