Arabs set to call for U.N. Security Council vote on Palestinian state

CAIRO (Reuters) - Arab foreign ministers met on Saturday to agree a draft resolution setting a deadline for the creation of a Palestinian state and to agree on a date to present it to the United Nations Security Council for a vote. In October, the Palestinians informally shared a draft resolution with Arab states and some council members, calling for an end to Israeli occupation by November 2016. Fifteen dead, 14 hurt in attack in China's Xinjiang - Xinhua

SHANGHAI (Reuters) - Fifteen people were killed when a group threw explosives into a crowded street where vendors were selling food in China's restive region of Xinjiang, the official Xinhua news agency said on Saturday. Eleven were attackers who were killed by the police, the agency said, and 14 people were injured. The attackers also stabbed people in Friday's attack in Shache County, state-owned Xinjiang news website Tianshan News said. KABUL (Reuters) - Gunmen attacked a compound in the Afghan capital on Saturday and were exchanging fire with security forces, police said. The assault in Kabul's western Karte Seh district was the latest round in a particularly violent week for the capital as Taliban insurgents have stepped up operations ahead of the withdrawal of most foreign troops from Afghanistan at the end of next month. Police investigate reports of explosion near UK army barracks

LONDON (Reuters) - British police closed off a major motorway in northern England on Saturday after an explosion was heard near Britain's largest army training barracks. North Yorkshire Police said the report of the explosion was made at 0300 GMT in the Catterick area where more than 13,000 army personnel and their families are based. There were no reports of any injuries and police said they were still investigating the possible cause.
