Ousted former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra prepares to deliver her statement at the National Legislative Assembly meeting in BangkokBy Aukkarapon Niyomyat BANGKOK (Reuters) - Ousted former Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra appeared at a Bangkok court on Tuesday for the start of her trial on negligence charges over a multi-billion dollar rice scheme that anti-corruption authorities alleged was plagued with graft. It is the latest in a slew of cases that have been brought against the former premier, cases her supporters say are part of an attempt by the ruling junta and their establishment allies to tighten their grip on power a year after they toppled Yingluck's government. "I prepared myself well today and am ready to defend myself in court," Yingluck told reporters as she arrived at the Supreme Court in Bangkok.

Ousted Thai PM Thaksin says no plans to mobilise supporters
3:26:02 AM
By James Pearson and Sohee Kim SEOUL (Reuters) - Thailand's fugitive former prime minister, Thaksin Shinawatra, said on Tuesday he had no plans to mobilise his "Red Shirt" supporters but called the first year of the junta government which came to power in a coup "not so impressive". Thaksin, who lives abroad to avoid a jail sentence handed down for graft in 2008, has rarely spoken about Thai politics since the military toppled the remnants of the government of his sister, Yingluck Shinawatra, a year ago. Thaksin, who was in the South Korean capital to speak at a conference, told Reuters there was no plan for his son, Oak, to take over leadership of the Puea Thai Party.

Police want bikers off streets after deadly Texas shooting
12:03:52 AM
By Lisa Maria Garza WACO, Texas (Reuters) - The local Harley Davidson dealership was closed, motorcycle riders were asked to stay off the roads and police snipers took to rooftops to watch Waco streets after a deadly gangland shooting caused many to cast a colder eye on bikers. Police did not say how long the request would last. Riders asked the public to take a breath, relax and realise that criminality is the rare exception for members of motorcycle clubs. Waco Police said they have been threatened by motorcycle gangs after a Sunday shoot out between rivals at a Twin Peaks restaurant that left nine dead and 18 injured.
