10:43:28 PM
Police fatally shot a black man they say pointed a gun at them in St. Louis on Wednesday, drawing angry crowds and recalling the racial tensions sparked by the killing of an unarmed African-American teen in nearby Ferguson, Missouri, just over a year ago. St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson said the shooting took place as officers were issuing a search warrant in a crime-ridden neighbourhood, when two young black men ran out the back door of the targeted house. Police officers ordered the men to stop in the alley behind the house and one suspect pointed a gun at officers who then fired approximately four times, killing him, Dotson said.

Mali separatists reject U.N. exclusion zone around northern towns
8:22:11 PM
Separatists in Mali told U.N. peacekeepers on Wednesday to remove a security zone set up around northern towns to forestall further violence with pro-government militias that has undermined a peace accord. The demand will likely raise tension between the separatist Coordination of Azawad Movements (CMA) and the Platform pro-government militias and make it harder for the U.N. mission (MINUSMA) to restore a fragile peace. "The CMA requests that MINUSMA lifts the security zone as soon as possible...and let the different parties settle their differences," a statement said.
