The chances of approving the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the "monsoon" sitting of parliament looked very slim after opposition politicians yelled slogans and the speaker adjourned proceedings until Thursday, the last day of the session. Supporters of GST say it will add up to 2 percentage points to economic growth by cutting red tape and making it easier to move goods and services around the world's second-most populous country.

The government's lawsuit, citing unfair trade practices, the sale of defective goods and the sale of a product without approval, has been filed in the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, a quasi-judicial body whose rulings are legally binding. "The department took exception (given) that Maggi was largely consumed by children and Nestle's advertisements aimed at popularising Maggi among children," said a government official at the food ministry.

| South Korean, 80, sets himself on fire in anti-Japan protest | |  By Dagyum Ji and Ju-min Park SEOUL (Reuters) - A 80-year old South Korean set himself on fire on Wednesday during a protest calling for Japan to apologise for forcing Korean girls and women to work in military brothels during World War Two, days ahead of the anniversary of the end of hostilities. With the anniversary looming, Wednesday's protest was larger than usual, with about 2,000 demonstrators, including three of the 47 known surviving Korean "comfort women", as they were euphemistically called by Japan, organisers said. Bystanders covered the man with protest banners to put out the flames and paramedics took him to hospital.

| Credit Suisse in talks to settle 'dark pool' allegations - WSJ | |  Credit Suisse Group AG is in talks to settle allegations related to its Crossfinder "dark pool" trading venue, which could result in a fine running in the high tens of millions of dollars, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. Dark pools are broker-run trading venues that let investors trade shares anonymously and only make trading data available afterwards, reducing the chance of information leaking about trade orders. The case against Credit Suisse include allegations that it facilitated unfair advantages for some traders, did not follow rules against pricing of stocks and was not able to properly disclose how Crossfinder works to investors, the WSJ said.

| Poland says still awaits U.S. legal help in Polanski extradition case | |  A Polish court which is to rule on film-maker Roman Polanski's extradition to the United States over a 1977 child sex conviction said on Wednesday it had not received requested legal help from the United States before a deadline expired. This may prove a potential stumbling block in the legal case. At a sitting in May, the court said it had requested further information from the U.S. authorities by Aug. 8, and adjourned the case until mid-September.
