Brazil Senate passes austerity bill in win for Rousseff

Rousseff waves during a meeting with governors at   Alvorada Palace in BrasiliaBrazil's Senate approved a bill to roll back payroll tax breaks on Wednesday that is a key measure in President Dilma Rousseff's efforts to reduce a gaping fiscal deficit and restore confidence in her government's accounts. The Senate voted 45-27 to pass the bill. It was received from the lower house with no changes, so it will go to Rousseff to be signed into law without delay.




More racial unrest in St. Louis after police kill black suspect

St. Louis police fatally shot a black teenager they say pointed a gun at them on Wednesday, drawing angry protesters and recalling the racial tensions sparked by the killing of an unarmed African-American teen in nearby Ferguson, Missouri, a year ago. St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson said the shooting took place as officers were carrying out a search warrant and two young black men ran out the back door of the targeted house. One suspect pointed a gun at officers who then fired about four times, killing him, Dotson said.

Hackers dumped a big cache of data containing millions of email addresses for U.S. government officials, UK civil servants and high-level executives at European and North America corporations late on Tuesday, the latest cyber attack to raise concerns about Internet security and data protection. The hacker attack has been a big blow to Toronto-based assignation website firm Avid Life Media, which owns Ashley Madison and has indefinitely postponed the adultery site's IPO plans.

Now, the 37,000-unit global chain has cut ties with Fogle.




Firm that vetted Snowden reaches $30 million settlement with U.S

The U.S. Justice Department said on Wednesday that the settlement with USIS and its parent company, Altegrity Inc [AGRTY.UL], will resolve claims that the firm failed to perform quality control reviews in connection with its background investigations.

Police fatally shot a black man they say pointed a gun at them in St. Louis on Wednesday, drawing angry crowds and recalling the racial tensions sparked by the killing of an unarmed African-American teen in nearby Ferguson, Missouri, just over a year ago. St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson said the shooting took place as officers were issuing a search warrant in a crime-ridden neighbourhood, when two young black men ran out the back door of the targeted house. Police officers ordered the men to stop in the alley behind the house and one suspect pointed a gun at officers who then fired approximately four times, killing him, Dotson said.


U.S. Democratic Senator Markey says he'll support Iran nuclear deal

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Senator Ed Markey, a Massachusetts Democrat, said on Wednesday he would support the nuclear deal with Iran, saying in a statement that he believed "that if strictly implemented, this plan can be effective." The Senate and House of Representatives plan to vote by Sept. 17 on a "resolution of disapproval" brought by Republicans who hope to sink the deal reached in July between Iran, the United States and other partners. Police spokesman Prawut Thawornsiri also said investigators were now convinced two other men seen on the grainy video footage were accomplices.
