|  Brazil's Senate approved a bill to roll back payroll tax breaks on Wednesday that is a key measure in President Dilma Rousseff's efforts to reduce a gaping fiscal deficit and restore confidence in her government's accounts. The Senate voted 45-27 to pass the bill. It was received from the lower house with no changes, so it will go to Rousseff to be signed into law without delay.

| Firm that vetted Snowden reaches $30 million settlement with U.S | |  United States Investigations Services Inc, the private firm that vetted former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden, has agreed to a settlement worth at least $30 million, resolving U.S. claims connected to its background investigations. The U.S. Justice Department said on Wednesday that the settlement with USIS and its parent company, Altegrity Inc [AGRTY.UL], will resolve claims that the firm failed to perform quality control reviews in connection with its background investigations.

| Thai police hunt 'foreign' man, two others for Bangkok blast | |  By Amy Sawitta Lefevre BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thai police said on Wednesday that a suspect captured by CCTV cameras minutes before a bomb exploded at Bangkok's Erawan shrine was a foreigner, and his appearance suggested he might be from Europe or the Middle East. Police spokesman Prawut Thawornsiri also said investigators were now convinced two other men seen on the grainy video footage were accomplices.
