Anger over safety standards is growing in China, after three decades of swift economic growth marred by incidents from mining disasters to factory fires, and President Xi Jinping has vowed that authorities will learn the lessons paid for with blood. Zheng Qingyue, who was chairman of the group's listed unit, Tianjin Port Holdings, will also be removed from his positions at the city's international trade and shipping service centres, the Tianjin government said on its website.

| Goods and services tax a matter of time - Jaitley | |  Finance Minister Arun Jaitley expressed confidence on Wednesday that he would be able to pass a new goods and services tax (GST), saying opposition to the reform would crumble when it comes to a parliamentary vote. "GST is only a question of time," Jaitley told an economic conference in New Delhi. The opposition Congress party and its allies have been able to block the measure because Prime Minister Narendra Modi's nationalist coalition lacks a majority in the upper house of parliament.

The financial intelligence agency, AUSTRAC, said in its annual report released this week that it had recorded a trebling of "suspicious matter reports" linked to the funding of overseas militant groups. | Tarantino says won't be intimidated over movie boycott calls | |  Director Quentin Tarantino said on Tuesday he would not be intimidated by police unions who have called for a boycott of his movies over remarks he made at a rally against police brutality. In his first remarks on the growing controversy, the Oscar-winning director told the Los Angeles Times that he was not a "cop hater" and that his words had been misrepresented. "I'm not being intimidated," Tarantino told the newspaper.
