Iranian cleric says Nimr execution will bring down Saudi government

Saudi Arabia executed 47 people for terrorism including Nimr al-Nimr, whom the government accuses of inciting violence among the Shi'ite minority, and at least three other Shi'ites. Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami, one of the most senior clerics in Shi'ite-ruled Iran, said in an interview with the Mehr news agency that Nimr's execution reflected the "criminal" nature of the Saudi ruling family.

"The execution of Sheikh Nimr was an execution of reason, moderation and dialogue," the council's Vice President Sheikh Abdel Amir Qabalan said in a statement. Saudi Arabia executed Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr and 46 other people.




Next parliament session can break tax deadlock: Arun Jaitley

The GST reform is long overdue and should have come much earlier, Jaitley told an event in New Delhi according to the finance ministry's Twitter feed. The reform needs a two-thirds majority to amend the constitution and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's nationalist coalition lacks the votes it needs in the upper house of parliament.

The deaths come amid a growing war of words between Saudi Arabia and the militant group Islamic State, which called for attacks in the kingdom. Tehran warned last year that executing Nimr would "cost Saudi Arabia dearly".




Suicide bomber kills three in Somali capital, police say

By Abdi Sheikh MOGADISHU (Reuters) - A suicide bomber attacked a popular restaurant in Mogadishu, the Somali capital, on Saturday, killing himself and at least three others, Somali police said. The attacker, dressed in a business suit over a suicide vest, detonated the bomb after entering the Village Restaurant, police said. "So far, three civilians are dead," Major Nur Ali, a senior police officer, told Reuters. This the third time suicide bombers have attacked the restaurant, which is opposite Somalia's National Theater. (Editing by Edith Honan, editing by Larry King)


Cars torched outside U.S. consulate in Tijuana -FBI

(Reuters) - The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Mexican authorities are investigating who started a fire outside the U.S. consulate in Tijuana that destroyed four cars, a U.S. official said on Friday. The U.S. consulate in Tijuana, located across the border from San Diego, is one of the busiest in Mexico. A U.S. consulate worker in the border city of Juarez was killed by drug gang gunmen in 2010.


Gunmen attack Indian air base in Pathankot, 6 dead

Officials said the gunmen, wearing army fatigues, managed to enter the Pathankot air base before dawn on Saturday.
