Operation to secure Pathankot air base continues - IAF

"The area cannot be declared fully sanitised," Air Marshal Anil Khosla told a news briefing in New Delhi. Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi told reporters in New Delhi that four gunmen had been confirmed killed and he hoped the two still at large would be "neutralised" by evening.

Gunfire and blasts were heard as security forces hunted the lone remaining attacker in the Indian Air Force base at Pathankot, a day after the raid in which five attackers and six Indian military personnel have now been killed. The attack by gunmen disguised as soldiers came a week after Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an unscheduled visit to Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in an effort to revive talks between the nuclear-armed neighbours.

The source said it was not yet clear whether the air base was now fully secured but efforts were under way to complete the operation before nightfall. At least six Indian military personnel have died since gunmen launched an audacious pre-dawn attack on Saturday on the Indian Air Force Base at Pathankot, just 25 km from the border with Pakistan.

Demonstrators massed at the embassy gates to protest against cleric Nimr al-Nimr's execution broke into the building, smashed furniture and started fires before being ejected by police. Iran's foreign ministry called for calm and urged protesters to respect the diplomatic premises.

The disappearances have stoked fears of mainland Chinese authorities using shadowy tactics that erode the one country, two systems formula under which Hong Kong has been governed since its return to Chinese rule from Britain in 1997.

It said one adult defendant was indicted for murder and the second, a minor, as an accessory to murder. Iran leader sees "divine vengeance" for Saudi cleric execution

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei   speaks live on television after casting his ballot in the Iranian presidential   election in TehranIranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, attacking Saudi Arabia for the second straight day over its execution of a prominent Shi'ite cleric, said on Sunday politicians in the Sunni kingdom would face divine retribution for his death. "The unjustly spilled blood of this oppressed martyr will no doubt soon show its effect and divine vengeance will befall Saudi politicians," state TV reported Khamenei as saying. Saudi Arabia executed Nimr al-Nimr and three other Shi'ites alongside dozens of al Qaeda members on Saturday, signalling it would not tolerate attacks by either Sunni jihadists or members of the Shi'ite minority seeking equality.
