Six militants who attacked Pathankot air base now dead - defence minister

Addressing reporters at the base near the border with Pakistan, Parrikar said Indian security forces "have done an excellent job containing these highly motivated terrorists". Iraqi Sunni mosques attacked in apparent retaliation for Saudi execution

Iraqi Shi'ites protesting the Jan. 2 execution of Saudi Shi'ite cleric Nimr al-Nimr separately marched in Baghdad and southern cities, while a powerful Iranian-backed Shi'ite militia group pressured the government to sever ties with Riyadh. Iraq's Interior Ministry confirmed the attacks on Sunni mosques late Sunday in Hilla, around 100 km (60 miles) south of Baghdad.

Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Sudan broke all ties with Iran and the United Arab Emirates downgraded its relations on Monday after the Saudi embassy in Tehran was stormed by protesters. Kuwait recalled its ambassador to Iran on Tuesday.




Suspected arsonist held in China after bus fire kills 17

Bus fires are not uncommon in China, where regulators have blamed some recent blazes on flawed auto design. Flames engulfed the bus in front of a furniture store in the northern region of Ningxia.

"The minute I saw them I realised that they were terrorists," Police Superintendent Salwinder Singh told media. "One of the gunmen snatched my phone and made calls to Pakistan," Singh said.
