India furious as China blocks U.N. blacklisting of militant chief

India accused Jaish-e-Mohammad of masterminding a fatal attack on the Pathankot air base in India in January.

Simpson as having been used in the 1994 murders he was acquitted of committing in the "Trial of the Century," a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said on Friday. Forensic investigators conducted DNA and other tests on the blade after it was turned over to Los Angeles police within the last few months by a retired LAPD motorcycle officer. The retired officer told investigators he had been given the knife by a construction worker, who in turn claimed to have found it on Simpson's property in the Brentwood neighbourhood of Los Angeles when the house was being torn down in 1998.

TV channel closes office and newspaper attacked amid Saudi tensions with Lebanon

The Saudi-owned television news channel Al Arabiya shut its offices in Lebanon and dismissed 27 employees, two of its journalists said on Friday, in a sudden move that comes amid political tensions between Riyadh and Beirut. Protesters also attacked the Beirut office of Saudi-owned newspaper Asharq al-Awsat on Friday in response to a cartoon published by the paper criticising the Lebanese state. Saudi Arabia has already cut $3 billion in military aid to Lebanon after the Lebanese government failed to condemn an attack on the Saudi embassy in Tehran in January.


South Africa's Zuma denies dishonesty over spending scandal

The scandal is arguably the biggest yet to hit Zuma, who has fended off accusations of corruption, influence peddling and even rape since before he took office in 2009. It comes ahead of local elections that could see the ruling African National Congress (ANC) lose support.

The bill creates the post of state counsellor and would allow the Nobel laureate to coordinate ministers and influence the executive. It would help Suu Kyi circumvent a constitution written under the former junta that prevents her leading the country because her two sons are not Myanmar citizens.




Greece passes asylum law needed for EU-Turkey migrants deal

The deal aims to end the uncontrolled influx of refugees and other migrants after more than one million people crossed into Europe last year. Both Greece and Turkey had to amend their legislation to permit the start of the scheme - denounced by the U.N. refugee agency and rights groups for lacking legal safeguards - to send back all migrants who reached Greece after March 20.




U.N. hopes parties to Yemen peace talks will engage constructively

Earlier this week, a Saudi-led military coalition said it had completed a prisoner swap in Yemen, exchanging nine Saudi prisoners for 109 Yemeni nationals ahead of a planned truce and peace talks aimed at ending the year-long war with Iran-allied Houthi rebels.




Suspected killer of Russian pilot held in Turkey over different incident - report

A man suspected of killing a Russian pilot whose plane was shot down by a Turkish jet near the Syrian border in November has been detained over an unrelated incident, Turkey's Dogan news agency said on Friday. Authorities arrested Alparslan Celik, a fighter with a Turkish-backed Turkmen brigade opposing government forces in northern Syria, in the Aegean coastal city of Izmir on Thursday along with 13 other people.
