President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi directed his government to amend the law within one month. The election is the final step in a political roadmap the army announced in July 2013. Egypt has been without a parliament since June 2012 when a court dissolved the democratically elected main chamber, reversing a major accomplishment of the 2011 uprising that toppled autocrat Hosni Mubarak. |

Families, the old and young walked slowly, with many holding portraits of the opposition politician and former deputy prime minister who was shot dead while walking home from a nearby restaurant on Friday night. | Three arrested at Hong Kong anti-China protest, scuffles with police | |  At least three people were arrested as a group of about 400 people in Hong Kong clashed with police in the latest sign of ongoing tensions caused by China's influence in the city. Protesters in Yuen Long, in Hong Kong's New Territories just a stone's throw from mainland China, chanted to "cancel the multiple-entry permit" and "topple the Chinese Communist Party" as they complained against so-called parallel traders, who buy goods in Hong Kong to sell at a profit across the border. A female protester was bleeding from the nose as police dragged her away. The demonstration mirrored others in recent weeks targeting mainland Chinese visitors that have tapped a seam of resentment against China, resulting in calls for greater Hong Kong nationalism and even independence from China, nearly three months after police cleared away the last of pro-democracy street protests in the city.

| Kurdish rebels call disarmament move historic, want Turkey to step up reforms | | | Kurdish militants on Sunday described as "historic" a call by their jailed leader to hold a disarmament congress and said Turkey must now take concrete steps to keep the peace process on track. Abdullah Ocalan, who still exerts influence over the armed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) from his prison cell, on Saturday called on followers to meet in the spring and agree to lay down their arms. Ocalan's call has been lauded by both sides as a crucial step in Turkey's efforts to negotiate an end to a 30-year insurgency that has killed 40,000 people, mostly Kurds. | ASML says computer systems briefly compromised, no key data accessed | | | Dutch semiconductor equipment maker ASML said on Sunday that it was investigating an unauthorised intrusion into its IT systems, but it had found no evidence that valuable files were accessed. ASML, the world's largest maker of tools for etching out the powerful microchips at the heart of latest-generation smartphones and computer servers, underpins much of the world's technology infrastructure. The company did not say when the breach had taken place, but said ASML staff discovered the break-in soon after it occurred. ASML's clients include all of the world's largest chipmakers, including Intel and Samsung. |

Avijit Roy, a U.S. citizen of Bangladeshi origin, was killed by machete-wielding assailants on Thursday while returning from a book fair. His wife and fellow blogger Rafida Ahmed suffered head injuries and lost a finger. Students, professors and writers were among those laying flowers on Avijit's coffin, placed in the grounds of Dhaka University. |
