'Dog Whisperer' Millan defends methods amid probe over cruelty to a pig

Cesar Millan poses with Lassie at 2008 Primetime   Creative Arts Awards in Los AngelesPopular U.S. television dog trainer Cesar Millan, known as the "Dog Whisperer," said on Friday he understands why he is being investigated for animal cruelty but stands by his training methods, as thousands signed a petition demanding his show be canceled. Millan told People magazine that he is happy to cooperate with the investigation over a February 26 episode of the Nat Geo WILD TV series, "Cesar 911" in which Millan uses a pig to train a French bulldog terrier mix called Simon, who had killed two pigs in the past. A change.org petition signed by more than 10,000 people on Friday called Millan's methods inhumane, saying he "used the pig as a bait for the dog all for 'entertainment' purposes." It asked Nat Geo WILD to cancel his show.




White House narrows search to three, including Indian-American, for U.S. Supreme Court

Srinivasan, an Indian-American who served under presidents of both parties before President Barack Obama named him as an appellate judge, and Garland, considered but passed over for the Supreme Court twice before by Obama, are considered the leading contenders, according to the source and two other sources close to the process.

A police report released on Friday showed that the reporter, Michelle Fields, said she was the victim of battery on Tuesday night at Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter, Florida, where Trump spoke after that day's contests in the race to nominate the party's candidate for the November 8 presidential election. The accusation prompted a flurry of exchanges between Trump's campaign and Fields.

China wrote this week to diplomats and U.N. officials calling on them not to attend the panel at Geneva's Graduate Institute, saying it opposed the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader's appearance at all venues due to his "separatist activities". The United Nations last week reported 99 allegations that U.N. staff took part in sexual exploitation or sexual abuse in 2015.

The announcement comes after a Reuters investigation revealed in December that China's ruling Communist Party backs the Buddhist religious sect behind the protests that have confronted the Dalai Lama in almost every country he visits. Reuters found that the sect had become a key instrument in China's campaign to discredit the Tibetan spiritual leader.




Dead ex-Russian press minister may have been attacked outside hotel -source

U.S. authorities said on Thursday that Lesin died of blunt force injuries to the head. State Department spokesman John Kirby said on Friday that U.S. officials had facilitated contact between Washington police and the Russian government.     "There is an avenue of direct communication between the police department and the Russian government," he told reporters.   Rumours have swirled around the death of the former Putin adviser since he was found dead in his room in the Doyle Washington Hotel, which is also known as the Dupont Circle Hotel, last Nov. 5.

(Reuters) - Attorneys for wrestling celebrity Hulk Hogan rested their $100 million privacy invasion case against the Gawker news outlet on Friday, wrapping up a lively week of testimony in a Florida lawsuit examining the posting of a sex tape in modern media. Next week, Gawker will call the editor behind the post and other witnesses, that could include founder Nick Denton, at a civil trial in St. Petersburg, Florida, near Hogan's home. Gawker's one-minute, 41-second edited excerpt shows Hogan having consensual sex with the wife of his then best friend, radio "shock jock" personality Bubba the Love Sponge.
