The top court decision overruled a decision by federal judge Sergio Moro to make public a wiretap recording of a conversation between Lula and President Dilma Rousseff regarding his appointment to her Cabinet as her chief of staff. The Supreme Court is expected to discuss next week the suspension of Lula's appointment by one of its justices on the basis that it was a move to shield him from prosecution.

| Turkey detains suspected killer of downed Russian pilot - report | | | Turkish authorities have detained a man suspected of killing a Russian pilot after his plane was shot down by a Turkish jet near the Syrian-Turkish border last November, Turkey's Hurriyet newspaper reported on Thursday. Russian defence officials said at the time that the pilot had managed to eject from his stricken plane only to be killed by ground fire from militants inside Syria.
