| Mexico arrests ex-police chief linked to student disappearances | |  Mexico has arrested a former police chief at the heart of an investigation into the disappearance and likely massacre of 43 trainee teachers in the southwestern city of Iguala two years ago, security officials said on Friday. Felipe Flores was chief of police in Iguala when the students disappeared on the night of September 26, 2014. Flores, who had been a fugitive for two years, was arrested while visiting his wife in Iguala, national security commissioner Renato Sales told a news conference.

The liberal 83-year-old justice will make a one-night appearance in the non-singing role of the Duchess of Krakenthorp when the comic opera opens on Nov. 12, the Washington National Opera said in announcing the casting. Although the one-night stand will mark Ginburg's official opera debut, she and the late Justice Antonin Scalia appeared as extras in a party scene of Richard Strauss' "Ariadne auf Naxos" in 2009, the Washington Post reported.

After a recorded interview that Erdely had with the woman was played for the jury, Erdely said that the woman had lifted up her dress to show the tattoo, a female symbol with a fist on a rose. |
| Banks warn share tax hike threatens Paris' post-Brexit appeal | |  A proposed increase in France's share tax flies in the face of efforts by the government and the financial industry to lure banking jobs from London, financial sector lobbies have warned. "This is also a bad signal that we are sending in the context of Brexit as for the attractiveness of the Paris financial centre," Philippe Brassac, head of the French banking federation and chief executive of France's third-biggest listed lender Credit Agricole, told Reuters. Although the Socialist-led government had not included the increase in the original bill, it backed lawmakers' amendments to introduce the increase.
